This is a story about how the Sun creates a Mirage.

Represents the principal characters to help kids visualise the story better.
Little Ellie and the Sun

The Mirage my little friends is a trick of the eyes
Created by light rays shining on objects while travelling through the skies

As light rays pass through heavier to lighter air layers
Its path gets bent owing to the thickness of the players

It then bounces back to the eyes to show an image, above or below
The real objects which still stand where they were before.

Once upon a time in a large yellow desert there lived a little camel called Ellie. She was tall and brown and beautiful and had long beautiful lashes with a round curved hump.

The Mirage story begins thus…

Ellie was a very friendly animal. She had lots of friends in the desert. The prickly cactus, the furry coyote, the spiny tailed lizard and even the slithering desert snakes. However, if there was one thing that Ellie hated in the desert it was the Sun.

The desert was a hot and dry place and Ellie felt the sun made it worse by shining on it with his harsh and strong rays. Every morning it would blanch the sand with its hot rays. By mid-day the sand would get so hot that Ellie could hardly step on it.

β€œGo Away!” Ellie would scream at the sun.

The naughty sun would laugh and just shine brighter making the sand turn more and more hot.
Ellie thought the sun was just being pompous and proud of his ability to shine on the world.

One day she looked up angrily at the sun and told him.

β€œWhat are you so proud of Oh Sun!
Burning us with your rays just for fun!”

The sun smirked and wondered how could she be so naive?

Did she not know that it was because of him that there was light and life on earth?
